RFID hybrid EAS gates protecting a flagship sporting-goods store
The challenge
Decathlon's River West Mall store combines high footfall with self-service merchandising — thousands of RFID-tagged products moving through wide, open entrances every day. Conventional EAS gates would either slow shoppers down or miss tagged items in dense traffic, and the store needed loss prevention that wouldn't undercut the open, grab-and-go experience the brand is known for.
Our approach
We deployed RFID hybrid EAS gates at every entrance — reading Decathlon's existing item-level RFID tags directly, so no second security tag was needed. The gates discriminate between paid and unpaid items at the exit, feed alarms with item-level detail, and double as a data source for inventory accuracy. Our field team handled siting, tuning and integration with store operations, with ongoing support from our Athens office.
Project facts
RFID hybrid gates at the River West Mall entrance
The outcome
alarm detail — staff see exactly what triggered
extra tagging labour — uses existing RFID tags
loss prevention + inventory data from one system
The gates work with the tags our products already carry — security stopped being a separate workflow and became part of the same RFID backbone that runs the store.
